Derek Walker has been appointed the executive director of the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society at Dartmouth, effective March 10, 2025. With 17 years of experience at the Environmental Defense Fund, Walker has a proven track record in leading interdisciplinary teams comprising scientists, economists, lawyers, and policy experts to advance innovative climate and energy transition solutions. As vice president of global energy transition at EDF, he spearheaded efforts to deploy clean energy equitably across key regions.

In addition to his role at Dartmouth, Walker is an adjunct professor of international climate law at Vermont Law and Graduate School and serves on the boards of the Institute for Sustainable Communities and the Bluegreen Alliance. He is also a member of the Early Years Climate Action Task Force. Walker holds a bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary and has studied at the University of Oxford.
