Energy Justice Clinic Students and Dr. Sarah Kelly Collaborate on NSF-Funded Flood Response and Resilience Research

After catastrophic flooding struck Vermont in July 2023, Dartmouth researchers launched the Rural Rivers Project, an interdisciplinary initiative focused on studying disaster response and recovery in affected communities.

With new funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the project is being led by Principal Investigator Dr. Charis Boke, Research Scientist and Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology, Dr. Sarah Kelly, (Co-PI) Research Scientist, Lecturer, and head of the Energy Justice Clinic, and Aletha Spang (Co-PI) GIS Specialist in Geography.

Through the Energy Justice Clinic, Dartmouth students are working with Dr. Kelly, fellow researchers, and community partners to survey vulnerable infrastructure and develop long-term community and energy resilience strategies. Emphasizing student leadership and community-centered research, the project reflects the commitment of Dartmouth and the Irving Institute to energy justice, public engagement, and driving meaningful impact.
