"The New Hampshire Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently presented their 2024 Building of the Year award to the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society. The award is given annually in recognition of the New Hampshire building certified with the most points in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or "LEED" rating system. In August 2024, the Irving Institute building, which opened in March 2022, was certified LEED Platinum, USGBC's highest certification level." – Michael Coty, Vice Chair USGBC New Hampshire Chapter
The Irving Institute's Academic Director, Amanda Graham, joined Patrick O'Hern, Dartmouth's Senior Director of Project Management Services at an event on December 5th to accept the award. Dr. Graham shared images of the wide array of activities – research symposia, educational workshops, poster presentations, as well as arts and dance performances – that have taken place in the building in the first years of its operation. "The building supports not just outstanding energy performance, with an energy use intensity of less than 25% of the average Dartmouth building, but also fantastic performance as a hub for convening science, social science, and arts events that inspire just and sustainable pathways for the future," observed Dr. Graham.
"We are honored to be recognized by the USGBC. The Irving Institute has been thoughtfully designed as a vibrant hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, where creativity and innovation converge to propel us toward a sustainable and clean energy future." – Geoff Parker, Irving Institute Faculty Director
