The Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society at Dartmouth is thrilled to announce that Dr. Angelika Hofmann has joined the Institute team. Dr. Hofmann, who assumed the role of Senior Associate Director of Environmental and Physical Sciences Grant Support on July 18, works to identify, coordinate, and supervise novel opportunities for research support in the engineering, environmental, chemical/physical and related disciplines and in areas of interest to the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society and to Dartmouth Grant Proposal Support (GPS). She also advises administrative leadership on strategic initiatives in these fields, aiming to align Dartmouth's needs with the funding interests of donors to advance university priorities in education, scholarship, and research.

"Institutions of higher education such as Dartmouth have a responsibility not only to train the next generation of leaders but also to offer multi-pronged approaches to finding solutions to the challenges and crises of our time," said Dr. Hofmann about her new role. "Strategic visions and fundraising are key components to enabling researchers to find such solutions."

Previously, Dr. Hofmann was Senior Associate Director and Interim Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations at Dartmouth, Strategic Projects and Communications Advisor to Yale University's Vice Provost for Research, and Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations for Science and International Initiatives in Yale's Office of Development. In these roles, she managed top university prospects, advised and aided in implementing science priorities, and played a key role in fundraising from leading international corporations and foundations.

Dr. Hofmann holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of California, Irvine, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Genetics in Berlin, Germany. She is the founder of SciWri Services, a venture providing editing, training, and consulting services on scientific communication worldwide, and the author of two books that are standards in the field: Scientific Writing and Communication – Papers, Proposals, and Presentation and Writing in the Biological Sciences (Oxford University Press.)
