A pioneering study published in Nature, co-authored by Dartmouth alumnus Dr. Christopher Callahan '23 and Associate Professor Justin Mankin, introduces an innovative framework that traces climate damages back to emissions from individual fossil fuel companies. By integrating climate modeling with emissions data, this research compares the current climate with hypothetical scenarios where certain companies' emissions are absent, effectively establishing causality for climate-related disasters.
Building upon previous models, the researchers offer a more direct simulation of emissions to pinpoint a company's greenhouse gas footprint, forging a clearer connection between emissions, climate impact, and associated economic losses.
