Dartmouth Launches Master of Energy Transition Degree to Prepare Future Clean Energy Leaders

Dartmouth has announced that applications are now open for its new Master of Energy Transition degree program, set to launch in Fall 2025. This innovative, nine-month, in-person program will equip students with the multidisciplinary knowledge and skills needed to lead the decarbonization of the global energy economy. The MET program will be offered through Dartmouth's Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies.

"We face an urgent need to decarbonize our energy systems," said Professor Geoff Parker, interim director of Dartmouth's Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society, which spearheaded the program's creation. "The MET program responds to strong demand from both students and employers for professionals who are prepared to accelerate the clean energy transition. Industry analysis, including the Department of Energy's 2024 U.S. Energy and Employment Jobs Report, shows explosive growth in clean energy jobs, with millions more expected in the coming decade."

The MET program is designed to address this growing workforce demand by providing rigorous, hands-on training in three key areas:

  • Technology of Energy Systems

  • Business and Economics of Energy

  • Science, Policy, and Impact of Energy

Taught by Dartmouth faculty and leading energy experts, the program emphasizes project-based learning, connecting students with real-world challenges and networks that will help them launch successful careers in clean energy.

Professor Parker added, "Dartmouth's extensive network of alumni leaders in energy and climate are eager to mentor students and offer invaluable career support, including job recommendations and leads."

Applications for the inaugural MET cohort are now open. The priority application deadline is January 31, 2025. Prospective students can learn more about the program and register for an upcoming online information session by visiting the MET program website. Email energy.transition@dartmouth.edu with questions.
