Professional experience:
- Team Lead, Avalanche Route Leader and Trail Crew Member, Park City Ski Patrol
- Systems Operations Associate, Collective Health
- Researcher & Writer, The Bowdoin Review
Why I chose Dartmouth's MET program: I chose the MET because the interdisciplinary curriculum and faculty offer an opportunity to develop a systems-level view of the energy system. I believe that renewable energy technologies offer an opportunity to create a future that is not only sustainable, but also materially abundant and supportive of just societies. To contribute to such a future, an understanding of the technological, economic, and social dimensions of energy is essential. The incredibly committed network of Dartmouth alumni is also a nice bonus!
Bio: Jack earned a dual B.A. in Math and Economics from Bowdoin College, where he played defensive back on the football team and wrote for The Bowdoin Review. After graduating, he moved to Salt Lake City to build data tools for Collective Health, a rapidly-growing tech company. His desk at CH offered a spectacular view of the Wasatch Mountains, and after three years of looking at them, he took a chance and joined the Park City Ski Patrol. Over five years of full-time patrolling, Jack grew into a leadership role coordinating alpine emergency response teams, leading crack-of-dawn avalanche control routes, and connecting with the natural world. Witnessing the Wasatch's dwindling snowpack up close left a lasting impression on Jack and motivates his current work as an MET student. Jack hopes to use the leadership, communication and quantitative skills he developed in earlier roles to contribute to electricity sector decarbonization.
