The Master of Energy Transition (MET) is a non-thesis, interdisciplinary program that equips you to lead in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. The MET takes a systems-level approach: from infrastructure and technology to economics, policy, and social equity, you'll engage with the full complexity of clean energy systems.

We welcome students from all academic backgrounds. Whether you have focused on STEM, social sciences, or the humanities, there is demand for your skills and perspective in the energy transition. Studying with renowned Dartmouth faculty and supported by an industry mentor, you'll build the skills and knowledge to collaborate with stakeholders across sectors, locally and globally.

As the world shifts toward low and no-carbon energy systems, the demand for skilled professionals in energy career paths continues to increase. In 2025, global renewable energy capacity grew by more than 15.5% (International Renewable Energy Agency).

Businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies need professionals who can move fluidly across sectors—from technology and finance to policy and community impact. The MET takes a systems-level approach and incorporates each of these disciplines into one comprehensive program.

Application Information

The Master of Energy Transition (MET) is part of Dartmouth's Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies. There is no GRE requirement to apply.

Deadlines

Applications for the Fall 2026 term have closed. Applications to enroll for Fall 2027 will open in September of this year.

Priority application deadline: January 15, 2027

Final application deadline: March 15, 2027

Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid

Tuition and Fees

Your tuition and fee costs for the Master of Energy Transition will include three terms (9 months). For Dartmouth tuition, fees, and an estimate of personal and living expenses, visit Tuition & Living Costs at the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies. 

Scholarships and Financial Aid

The Master of Energy Transition offers a limited number of need-based, partial tuition scholarships that can cover up to 40% of your tuition. Merit-based awards are considered automatically as part of the admissions process—no extra steps needed.  Financial Aid options are also available through the Guarini School.
