The Master of Energy Transition (MET) is a non-thesis, interdisciplinary program that equips you to lead in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. The MET takes a systems-level approach: from infrastructure and technology to economics, policy, and social equity, you'll engage with the full complexity of clean energy systems.

We welcome students from all academic backgrounds. Whether you have focused on STEM, social sciences, or the humanities, there is demand for your skills and perspective in the energy transition. As the world shifts toward low and no-carbon energy systems, the demand for skilled professionals in energy career paths continues to increase. In 2025, global renewable energy capacity grew by more than 15.5% (International Renewable Energy Agency).

Businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies need professionals who can move fluidly across sectors—from technology and finance to policy and community impact. The MET takes a systems-level approach and incorporates each of these disciplines into one comprehensive program.

GRE scores are not required and are not accepted for the MET application.
Financial Aid: When you fill out your graduate program application, please indicate if you are considering applying for financial aid. See details below.
All applications must be submitted online via the Guarini School application form.
- On the application, select the Master of Energy Transition as your desired degree program and complete the required supplemental application page.

Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid

Tuition and Fees

Your tuition and fee costs for the Master of Energy Transition will include three terms (9 months). For Dartmouth tuition, fees, and an estimate of personal and living expenses, visit Tuition & Living Costs at the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

The Master of Energy Transition offers a limited number of need-based, partial tuition scholarships that can cover up to 40% of your tuition. Merit-based awards are considered automatically as part of the admissions process—no extra steps needed. Financial Aid options are also available through the Guarini School.

Financial Aid Process

Applying for financial aid will not affect your admissions process or commit you to anything. We need to know as soon as possible if you are interested in financial aid.

If you are interested in financial aid:

When you fill out your graduate program application, you must indicate if you are considering applying for financial aid.
Complete the CSS Profile (Dartmouth CSS Code: 3351)
- Indicate your year in college as "1st-year grad/prof."
- Complete the CSS profile when you submit your graduate program application or shortly afterwards. The profile must be complete before the admissions notification dates.
Additionally, we encourage you to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (Dartmouth federal school code: 002573; US citizens only) to determine your eligibility for grants, work-study programs, and federal student loans.

Other Anticipated Expenses

All members of the MET Class of 2027 are eligible and encouraged to participate in at least one Career Trek during the program. In 2026-27, treks will travel to Houston, Texas (December) and San Francisco, California (March). Each Career Trek Fee is $350. The fee contributes to the cost of travel, lodging, and most meals for the trek experience. Students may apply for financial aid if the Career Trek Fee is a barrier to participation. This financial aid process would occur after the student is enrolled and is separate from the financial aid process for tuition.

Career Trek Fee Schedule:

December 2026 Career Trek: $350 fee due October 15, 2026
March 2027 Career Trek: $350 fee due February 1, 2027
