The spring 2022 term was a busy one for the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society at Dartmouth. We moved into our brand-new, highly energy-efficient building on the campus' West End in March, hosted a range of events, from receptions to lectures to open houses, welcomed a new Interim Executive Director, celebrated the official launch of Dartmouth's West End Innovation District, said good-bye to our Class of 2022 energy students and more. Here are a few images from the term — in our building and beyond — that capture some of the energy of Dartmouth spring 2022!

The Institute hosted a Welcome Reception for students to help them get to know the building and meet its residents. In this image, students talk to Dartmouth Energy Alliance club members about how to get involved in energy at Dartmouth.
In April, the Institute co-hosted its first in-person talk in two years in one of the building's new classrooms when John Deutch, Professor Emeritus at MIT and former CIA director, gave a talk called "50 Years of Energy Policy —Lessons for the Future." Alexis Abramson, Dean of the Thayer School, moderated.
At the end of April, the Institute hosted its third installment of the popular FERC Bootcamp, a two-day intensive that was led by FERC Branch Chiefs Jay Matson '91 and Nancy Bowler '82 and Gettysburg University experimental economist Rimvydas Baltaduonis. 16 undergraduates attended the class which focused on the basics of how the electricity grid works and energy markets are regulated in the US.
In mid-May, we celebrated the launch of Dartmouth's West End Innovation District with a flurry of activity, from building dedications, to hands-on demonstrations, to panels and fireside chats, to tours, to a laser light show.
At the end of May, students in Steven Peterson's ENGS 19.05 The Future of Energy Systems class presented their work in a poster session in the Atrium.
In June the Institute hosted a lunch to celebrate our graduating seniors and thank our hard-working interns and tour guides for all they have accomplished.
We capped off spring term with the unveiling of a student-created mural on the glass walls of the Institute's project lab. Commissioned by a team of Design Corps students who had been working on a project to help illustrate the energy features of the building, the colorful mural asks viewers to notice and ask questions about the building's natural ventilation systems, water-based heating and cooling, and more.
