Ríos y Memorias Vivas will feature Waikil, a Mapuche rapper and traditional educator who uses music as a way to sustain Mapuche culture in both urban and rural spaces. Blending rap with traditional Mapuche instruments, his lyrics touch on Mapuche culture, everyday practices, current issues, political questions, and the ongoing defense of land and water.

The evening will also include a multimedia component from Helen Deng ’26, which brings the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges Dam into conversation with rivers in Mapuche territory, Wallmapu, and our neighboring Kwenitekw, Connecticut River. These connections invite us to think about how rivers across different places carry histories, tensions, and forms of life. This is a space to listen, learn, and spend time in relation with water.

Refreshments will be provided. This event, hosted by the Energy Justice Clinic in collaboration with others, is open to all.
