Project Abstract

Convergence will be an art-based symposium that attempts to bridge the gap between science and art. With a topic as well-proven as climate crisis, more data will not win hearts and minds; experiences will. With this in mind, this symposium experiments with new models of togetherness and strategies that help us viscerally understand our entanglement and agency in the face of the world’s energy crisis.

The potent blend of art and ideas experienced in a group setting can encourage and empower collective action. In other words, art can be a galvanizing force that changes attitudes in a way that cold science cannot. Symposium attendees will come together in the face of our planetary crises, share a set of common experiences, and make space for agency to emerge. In addition, we hope to test and share best practices for reunifying the arts, humanities and sciences in both pedagogy and research applications.
